When our real estate firm leased a new office space in Abingdon, VA, we interviewed several companies about painting the interior. We selected the proposal from Abingdon Painting LLC and owner J.W. Hornsby.
We knew painting our new office would be a challenging job that would require more than just an “average” painter. The previous tenant had painted the walls with wide black, purple and white stripes, and there were quite a few holes in the walls, some as big as six inches wide.
In addition, this was a former warehouse space, and the side walls of the office were over 25 feet high.
After Mr. Hornsby repaired the drywall and applied the primer and first coat of paint, it started to bubble in many places. Not sure if the paint was defective or if the walls had problems, he spent countless hours attempting to remedy the situation.
He even consulted with Sherwin Williams - the paint provider - and their regional manager visited the work site. After reviewing the problem areas, Sherwin Williams agreed to provide some specialty coating products that solved the problem.
Mr. Hornsby at Abingdon Painting provided impeccable service and was nothing short of a miracle worker with the damaged and challenging walls. He did a superb job, and as a result, we now have a lovely office.
I highly recommend this contractor to anyone.

Exceeded My Expectations

After receiving a detailed and informative quote, I hired J.W. Hornsby at Abingdon Painting LLC to paint my home's interior for putting on the market.
J.W.'s attention to detail and creative problem solving was unparalleled. In the basement, the stairwell drywall was damaged with large sections missing, the steps and handrails were gouged and splintered, the cinder block walls had evidence of moisture, and the cement floor was severely damaged and cracked. During rainstorms, water would come into the basement through a deep floor crack at the door. It was a massive undertaking.
But J.W. expertly addressed all of the issues.
He patched and repaired the stairwell drywall, repaired and sanded the handrails, and installed custom-cut carpet onto each stairstep. He also scraped, patched and painted the cinder block walls with up to 5 coats of sealant in places to keep moisture out.
In addition, J.W. patched and smoothed dozens of floor cracks, and also created a custom path in the concrete floor using hydraulic cement that routed any stormwater into the basement sump pump.
Finally, after extensive scraping, he painted the basement floor with a beautifully-flecked epoxy sealant that truly was a selling point for the buyers.
J.W. Hornsby exceeded my expectations, and I would trust Abingdon Painting with any painting project.

Honest Man, Keeps His Word

J.W. Hornsby with Abingdon Painting was recommended to us by a friend. We contacted J.W. to give us a quote to repaint our living room, dining room, foyer, and hallway. The quote was very detailed and professional, and we hired J.W. to start painting our home at the end of 2022.
From the start we were impressed with J.W.’s attention to detail and quality of workmanship. We have 12-foot angled cathedral ceilings in our dining room, living room, and foyer which required J.W. to work many hours from tall ladders.
One section of the cathedral ceiling had past water damage and required replacing a large section of drywall (11 ft x 6 ft), which he professionally replaced and repainted.
In addition, J.W. worked hard to match the existing ceiling pattern until it was just right, which can be quite challenging. He even bought a new specialty brush just for our ceiling! The result? You would never even know that the ceiling had been patched!
J.W. does meticulous work, and as a result, we have walls, doors, window trim, and ceilings that look fantastic. We highly recommend Abingdon Painting for your painting needs.

UPDATE to our Review
Several months after J.W. completed the work, we noticed a few repaired wall cracks had re-appeared. We asked J.W. to take a look at those areas, and right away he indicated that he'd recently learned an improved way to repair wall cracks permanently using "hot mud".
So without delay, J.W. repaired all of the cracks with his new approach, and those areas now look like new.
Since it had not been that long since the original work was completed, J.W. said there would be no additional charge for the repairs. J.W. is an honest person who stands behind his work, and Abingdon Painting LLC is a company you can trust.

The large wall cracks you fixed are so well done that we can’t even see where they were before you started - beautiful job!
In addition, the baseboards and walls you repaired and painted really are done to perfection, and our stairway walls and steps now look brand new!
Finally, you did such a thorough job repairing and repainting our front and back doors that it looks like we actually replaced them both.
